Mulwazi Borehole Project

We understand that access to water facilities is crucial to a child's education

Following the drilling of a borehole and installation of a water pump at Mulwazi Basic School in August 2011, a fair amount of funding remained. It was agreed that this money should be used to provide drinking water and hand-washing facilities at the school.

Borehole II

The school has now received 5 hand-washing stands (including water buckets and catch bowls), 6 drinking water stands, 400 plastic drinking cups and 6 sets of simple shelves on which to store the cups.

The stands themselves were made by AR's Construction Supervisor (and welder extraordinaire), David Sangweni, with help from his apprentice, AR volunteer Niek Kramer.

A hand-washing stand has been positioned outside each latrine, promoting good health and hygiene practices among pupils and teachers.

The drinking water stands have been placed just outside each classroom, meaning pupils no longer have to leave class and walk to the borehole to fetch a drink of water.
