Kinnertone School
A brief history of Kinnertone School and our progress with this school
History
Kinnertone is a rural community lying roughly 8 kilometres from the district capital of Kalomo, in the Southern Province of Zambia. The local community is mostly engaged in subsistence farming, although, what sets the community apart is their willingness and determination to provide their children with an education they deserve. In 1995 the community organized themselves and created a committee to take charge of the plans to build a school. Kinnertone erected its very first structure - a single open-sided classroom with a thatched roof. Kinnertone Community School was born.
African Revival's work at Kinnertone
In 2009-10, African Revival provided assistance to Kinnertone for the construction of a 1x2 classroom block with an office. The new structure was an absolute necessity with the old thatched roof building falling apart. We were able to secure funds to build the new block and drill a borehole near the school. The borehole is situated only 300 meters away, so the children and teachers have a permanent water source that they can readily access. Before the borehole was drilled, the children and teachers had to walk 2 kilometers to get to the nearest safe water supply.

The old thatched roof building has now been replaced by new classroom block
The Future
Despite its new resources, the school still needs additional teaching space. With over 130 pupils and just 2 classrooms, classes are often very cramped. We hope to acquire the funds needed to build the resources to cater for children up to the end of their primary education at grade 9.
