Uganda Mountain Gorilla

Picture taken from Wikipedia

Uganda is home to over 1,000 species of mammals, birds, reptiles and insects. In Uganda’s national parks you can see many of the wild animals you are familiar with through reading story books and watching wildlife programmes on the television - lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinoceroses, hippopotami, leopards and many more…

Have a look at pictures of some of these animals and take part in our quiz at the same time!

Mountain Gorillas - An Endangered Species

One of the rarest animals found in Uganda is the Mountain Gorilla. There are two populations of mountain gorilla in the world, and both are in Uganda: one is within the Mgahinga national park in south-west Uganda; and the other is in Uganda's Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The Mountain Gorilla is a critically endangered species. There are now only about 700 left in the wild. The Mountain Gorilla faces an extremely high risk of extinction due to habitat loss, poaching, human disease, and war.
