Link your school with a school in Northern Uganda!

Linking INSPIRES and provides a unique opportunity for children and teachers in England to build meaningful relationships on an equal basis with school children and teachers in Northern Uganda. It also provides an opportunity for children to begin to understand the place that England inhabits in the world and the responsibilities and opportunities that this places on our students as global citizens. It allows children in Northern Uganda to know more about the wider world.

African Revival is one of the BBC World Class partners to set up links between schools in the UK and schools in Northern Uganda. Our schools linking programme is also endorsed by the Children and Young People Directorate of Surrey County Council and Four S. Participation in African Revival's schools linking programme puts schools in a strong position to apply for the DfES International School Award.

Linking benefits pupils and teachers in both England and in the partner country; not only in terms of cultural and educational enrichment, but also as a means to incorporating the global dimension into the national curriculum.

What we provide

The main points about our service are:

  • We link schools in England with schools in and around Gulu, Northern Uganda.
  • Linking is based on educational and cultural exchange from which both schools will benefit.
  • We will match your school with an appropriate school in Northern Uganda.
  • We provide English schools with a resource pack (which includes DVDs, picture files and lesson ideas) to support teachers to incorporate the global dimension, with a particular focus on development awareness, into teaching across the curriculum.
  • We are happy to take assemblies once a term in Surrey schools. For schools based outside Surrey we will provide termly assembly toolkits.
  • We will act as a point of contact for both schools, collecting letters at specified times from schools in England and ensuring these are passed onto schools in Northern Uganda (and vice versa).
  • We send regular email newsletters to keep all teachers involved in the programme up to date on news and events.
  • We ask our English schools to hold at least one fundraising event per year, where all funds raised will go directly to their partner school in Northern Uganda to purchase equipment and/or resources prioritised by them.
  • We ask our English schools for a £250 contribution towards the running costs of the programme (this amount is negotiable for smaller schools).

Thank you to our Sponsors!
