We sponsor 10 students each year to study carpentry, building, or mechanics. We also support a small crafts industry for the women of the area, by requesting them to make thank you cards and Christmas cards.

Primary Health Care Centre

Through funds raised from our annual Ball in September we are supporting the Martha Health Clinic. This clinic supports over 10,000 people in the area, with some traveling a distance of up to 40 miles to reach it, and yet there has been a severe lack of staff and equipment in order to serve this population sufficiently and adequately. There is a high death rate from malaria particularly among children aged less than 5 years and the other main causes of death are waterborne diseases and pneumonia.

Through the help of our partners, Poppy and John Spens, African Revival is funding the improvement of effective testing facilities, treatment and prevention programmes of malaria and other diseases and provide health education to encourage use of clean water and sanitation, rubbish disposal, diet etc. Necessary equipment is also being purchased and the employment of additional trained staff implemented to improve the ability to tackle the needs of the area.

We have also sent out medical equipment in containers to go to Yei hospital as well as the Kadugli hospital, to help refurbish and replenish the supplies of children’s orthopedic and respiratory equipment as well as day to day medical supplies.

In partnership with the Maluane Project, our focus is in the Quiterajo District in northern Mozambique. The first proposal is a water project as the villages are situated far from the nearest permanent water points, which they have to share with elephants. Over the past three years there have been 19 attacks by elephants on humans, of which 6 ended in fatalities. African Revival are therefore repairing the wells that are in disrepair and putting new wells in villages that do not have any.

The health situation in the area is dire with the nearest hospital situated over 80 km away on a very bad dirt road, if transport can be found, which is rare. There is only one ambulance for the district that very rarely comes to Quiterajo. In order to tackle this African Revival has plans to renovate the health centre and construct a suitable maternity facility.
