Schools Linking
Schools Linking
Our schools linking programme facilitates links between schools in Africa and the UK, and broadens UK schools understanding of global and cross cultural issues, through the creation of a global learning environment between linked schools.
African Revival facilitates the sharing of knowledge and ideas, through letter exchanges and joint project work.
We work with 16 schools in Zambia; 14 Basic schools and two High Schools in Kalomo District.
UK schools raise money which is spent directly on their partner school in Zambia. This makes a real difference to schools in Zambia, and UKschools can see directly how their efforts are benefiting children in Zambia.
With funding from the British Council, African Revival facilitates Reciprocal Visits for teachers between partner schools; this involves a teacher from each school visiting and spending time learning, observing and sharing ideas with their partner school in the UK or Zambia.
Education Development Programme
Teacher training: In 2009 African Revival Zambia is sponsoring two students through teacher training – one as a high school teacher and the other as a Basic School Teacher. Training of teachers will be one key area in which African Revival will continue to work as it benefits not only the sponsored teacher, their families and surrounding communities, but also future generations in Zambia.
School infrastructure: The focus on community schools and those which are most under-developed will also mean that our work to improve school infrastructure will continue. Better classroom blocks mean lessons can continue even during the rainy season, and teacher’s housing improves teacher motivation and retention especially in rural schools. Work will continue in ensuring schools have access to clean water and appropriate numbers of latrines to improve hygiene and sanitation in schools.
Resource needs: In addition all of the sixteen schools African Revival works with in the district have resource needs – for some this is adequate numbers of text books and blackboards, for other schools this is the desperate need for paper and pencils to begin with. Many of the schools do not have enough desks for their students, and lack any uniforms for the children. Where appropriate, African Revival will look to work with the most under resourced schools to improve the learning environment and education for the children at that school.
