Schools Linking Programme for UK schools

African Revival’s Schools Linking Programme aims to support improvement in education in schools in Africa through the facilitation of links between schools in Africa and the UK; and to broaden UK schools understanding of global and cross cultural issues, through the creation of a shared sustainable global learning environment between linked schools.

Our Schools Linking Programme has been running since 2006, and we work with schools in the UK, Uganda and Zambia, to create appropriately matched long-lasting links between schools. Through UK schools fundraising efforts, money is spent directly on their partner school in Africa. Both schools, in the partnership learn more about each other and about global cultures, and African Revival supports schools to do this through creative and educational means.

African Revival is one of the BBC World Class partners setting up links between schools in the UK and schools in Northern Uganda and Southern Zambia. Our schools linking programme is also endorsed by the Children and Young People Directorate of Surrey County Council and Four S. Participation in African Revival's schools linking programme puts schools in a strong position to apply for the DfES International School Award.

The main points about our programme are:

  • We link schools in the UK with schools in and around Gulu, Northern Uganda and Kalomo, Southern Zambia. The link is based on an educational and cultural exchange through writing letters and sharing photos and films, from which both schools will benefit.
  • We send regular email newsletters to keep all teachers involved in the programme up to date on news and events.
  • We provide information sessions in the UK and African schools, to encourage and support them in the link.
  • We support schools that have been linked for six months to apply for reciprocal visit funding grants from the British Council and facilitate visits.
  • We ask UK schools for a £250 annual contribution towards the running costs of the programme.
  • In addition, we ask all our UK schools to raise a minimum of £350 per year for their partner school (every penny goes to their partner school) and receive fundraising certificates and photo/details showing how the funds have been spent.
  • For more information and the opportunity to join the schools linking programme and link with a school in Uganda or Zambia, or to find out details of recent successful visits to Uganda, pleace contact mail@africanrevival.org
