Schools Linking Programme
Our Schools Linking Programme has been partnering schools from Northern Uganda and the UK since 2006. The Programme now works with a number of Ugandan schools and their partners and we have witnessed some encouraging results.
The Schools Linking Programme aims to support improvement in education through the facilitation of links between schools in Africa and the UK; and to broaden UKschools understanding of global and cross cultural issues, through the creation of a shared, sustainable and global learning environment.
There are three key activity areas to the Schools Linking Programme.
The ‘Communication Exchange’ involves the exchange of letters, poems and project work between the Ugandan schools and their UK partner schools. This enables pupils to acquire a greater understanding of other cultures, beliefs and issues on a global scale as well as providing teachers with creative and interesting material to incorporate into their curriculum.
We hope that UKschools raise a minimum of £350 a year for their Ugandan partner school so that they can buy much needed resources and equipment such as text books, desks and IT equipment. African Revival oversees the procurement and accountability of these items through the ‘School Spend’, another of the three key activity areas of the Schools Linking Programme.
Reciprocal Visits enable teachers to visit their partner school which really makes the link come to life. Teachers share ideas with their partner school as well as bringing back their newfound experiences and ideas to their own schools for the benefit of the pupils. African Revival assists schools in finding funding for Reciprocal Visits through the British Council. We have so far facilitated six reciprocal visits between UK and Ugandan schools.
