Who we are

Our vision is of an Africa where all people are empowered with the skills and resources they need to lift themselves out of poverty.

African Revival is a UK based charity founded in 2005 by a successful businessman Tony Allen who was deeply moved by the grinding poverty that he witnessed in sub-Saharan Africa and wanted to take direct and immediate action to help address it.

Over the past four years the organisation has supported a series of successful development projects within seven countries, and now continues in its mission to provide assistance to poor communities in East & Southern Africa through appropriate, effective and sustainable education and income generating projects.

We have a very small (hard working!) team at our London home in Hampton Hill, two international volunteers based within each country of operations to manage and monitor the projects (they work even harder…) plus further skilled local staff in Africa and many lovely generous volunteers in the UK.

Our board of trustees holds expertise in many fields including commerce, finance, education, law and marketing and they meet regularly to discuss strategic and operational issues and often visit Africa to inspect existing projects or evaluate new ventures.

As a team of volunteers, UK and African staff and trustees we share some key beliefs that drive us in the work that we do

  • We believe that improved education and economic growth are the keys to a brighter future for Africa.
  • We see the positives - acknowledging that there are huge challenges to overcome we are constantly inspired by the determination, resilience and optimism of the people we work with and assist in Africa.
  • We believe in equality of access for all people and therefore select projects based solely on need.
